Papaya

The papaya is a nutritious tropical plant. It grows as a semi-woody herbaceous perennial with high-yielding fruits. This plant will yield more than 100+ black seeds.

Papaya leaf

Papaya leaf looks foot-shaped with 3 edges & dark green color. Leaves are soft, and simple with dark yellow veins & have many medicinal values.

Papaya fruit

Fruits are melon-like fruits in a cylindrical shape and each fruit weighs about 9 to 12kgs. Matured fruits range from attractive orange or deep yellow. Papaya fruit juice is used as remedies for indigestion & related problems.

Papaya seeds

100+ black seeds sprout from fruits. Seeds contain healthy fats, a good amount of protein, fiber, vitamins, minerals, and mono-statured fatty acids. Seeds sprout 12-15 days after sowing. And the plants grow rapidly & produce fruits within six to 12 months of planting.

This plant is a succulent fruit-bearing plant. So the water requirement for this plant is weekly once. Stop watering the plants in rainy seasons.

Sunlight

Requires direct sunlight of about 8-12 hours. This plant loves to grow in ample sunlight.

Fertilizer 

Application of good organic manure like well-decomposed cow manure or goat manure around the plants monthly once.

Plant placement

 This plant placement is done in grow bags of suitable size or any suitable soil surface through protecting the plants from winds.

Spacing

This plant requires good spacing of about 1.8 x 1.8 m. for all varieties.

Propagation

The most commercial means of propagation is through seeds.

Pruning

Cut off the shoots that sprout from the base of the tree. Not to prune main terminal branches.

Pest & Diseases

The most common diseases & pests are mosaic virus especially leaves & mealy bugs.

Control

To overcome this application of liquid organic fertilizer panchagavya, neem oil at only the required quantities.
